According to the Social Science Citation Index, the most cited communication scholar in the world in the period 2000-2017; the only scholar to have received the two most prestigious international awards in the social sciences and humanities: the Holberg Prize, from Norway, and the Balzan Prize from Switzerland; knighted by France, Chile, Catalonia, Portugal and Finland; his trilogy “The Information Age: Economy, Society and Culture” Blackwell (1996-2003), translated in 22 languages, coined the concept of the network society as a founding narrative of our contemporary world; Wallis Annenberg Chair in Communication Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism University of Southern California and a distinguished visiting professor at MIT, Oxford and Cambridge, lectured in over 300 academic institutions in 45 countries and has received 24 honorary doctorates from around the world; a member of the Council of Scholars of the US Library of Congress; Founding Member of the European Reserach Council ERC and of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology EIT.
